Barnea Bistro fuses select seasonal ingredients and flavors with warm service and sensuous design. Chef Joshua Kessler, in collaboration with his passionate team, opened Barnea to invite diners inside a creative, immersive and elevated eating environment. It is a space that celebrates sense and enjoyment: evolving menus blend with crafted cocktails, curated beverages mix with musical atmosphere, delicious sounds absorb into decor—where texture is everywhere and the kitchen is open, with everything to show. Our cuisine begins with a dedication to fresh, seasonal ingredients and ends with attention to a full sensory experience–taste, texture and presentation. Each dish explores its elements with a variety of techniques, highlighting an array of taste and texture properties. Every plate is its own expressive design. Each menu is conceived for a surprising, complete and harmonious meal.

All of our signature cocktails are uniquely designed to interact with our menus. Cocktail components and juices are made in house by seasoned mixologists. Our Wine list is developed by our supremely talented, trained and experienced sommelier, arranged to perfectly pair with any plate.

The interior of Barnea Bistro is designed to create a synergy with its food. Centered around natural materials–wood, leather, marble–the space integrates texture with comfort to generate its contemporary atmosphere. Our open kitchen and tables build a balance between luxury and brasserie that welcomes all fashion. The space is located in a prime Midtown Manhattan location, on 46th street and 3rd Avenue. It is kosher supervised and certified by the Orthodox Union and features private dining rooms to accommodates an celebrations and corporate events.

Private Dining & Events

Barnea Bistro has expanded its space to host private dining and events. Celebrate sheva brachot, birthdays, anniversaries, corporate events and more with our award-winning cuisine and contemporary interior design. Our space, located in midtown Manhattan, accommodates parties of 15-125 and is certified kosher by the Orthodox Union. Custom decor and menu options available.

Joshua Kessler

Executive Chef/Owner

Joshua Kessler’s career in food began with a decision to follow a deep rooted passion for cooking. Family is a foundation for Josh’s culinary pursuits. He is surrounded by generations of expertise and talent in the food and hospitality business that both guided and energized his cooking ambition. While spending years working in the corporate insurance industry, Josh quietly pursued his dream–moonlighting in kitchens in and around NYC. In this early part of his path to becoming a professional, Josh spent time cooking at Mike’s Bistro (NYC). After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY Josh worked at Union Square Hospitality Group. Barnea is the culmination of a dream fueled by passion and desire.
